Destinee Wright: Hello, beautiful people! Destinee here. Recently I had a chance to chat with some small businesses at the farmers market in Holly Springs, NC, including Jonathan Daniel of Valley Love Farm.
Jonathan, tell us more about your business.
Jonathan Daniel: I raise animals naturally, so I put them in the field. We don't put any hormones. We don't put any added hormones or preservatives in them. So our animals eat natural food. I think what we don't realize is there's a lot of additives and these are spraying of our food. It's not healthy for our health.
Destinee: What is your experience then as a farmer in Holly Springs specifically?
Jonathan: This is an awesome place to be. Most people in this area, they don't ask questions. It's, “Why is the price?” They just like, “I know you said raising them good. I want this.” The people support the farmers.
Destinee: Has COVID-19 impacted your business?
Jonathan: Honestly, it has not impacted. In fact, it has been good for me because the people will come and support and buy much more. Like, there was one time there was shortage of meat. They couldn't find meat in the groceries, so people would come and get the meat from us.
Destinee: What do you love most about the Holly Springs Farmers Market?
Jonathan: It’s well organized. The people who organizes this place, they know what they're doing. They go a mile out of their way to make sure that we having a good place to sell our stuff. They bring different artisans here. They bring in different musicians. And so you get variety of music and it's amazing.
Destinee: I'm going to plug you real quick. You said you were on Netflix’s “High on the Hog.”
Jonathan: It was—it was an awesome experience because—since I'm a local farmer here, I got a call from one of my customers and say, “Jonathan, I'm doing this thing and I want you to be the provider of the meat. Can you bring the meat?” And so I—I support things like that. But to be honest with you, I had no idea what I was doing and who was there. I just was enjoying the moment. So it was—it was an—it was an amazing opportunity to being on Netflix.
Destinee: That’s so awesome. Congratulations on that.
Jonathan: Oh, thank you.
Destinee: Thank you for your time. It was such a pleasure chatting with you.
Jonathan: Well, thank you very much. It was a pleasure meeting you as well.
