My name is Isaiah Thomas. I'm just a part-time artist with another painting to show off again.

Coming into this painting, I did not know exactly what I wanted to do.  I started out sketching a bunch of things in my little sketchbook. One of the things that came out was this feeling of being really discombobulated. So I wanted to put that into the painting and I decided on the theme of “the open mind.”

I wanted to make sure I did not include a brain in the painting, because at this point I feel like my mind is everywhere and I don't have it; I don't have control of it. So I took a palette knife and I swept it across the whole canvas just to get my eyes going somewhere. I added deep navy blue as a background color because it's got so much depth to it. I also added in some gray into the background to darken up that blue. Then I took two squirt bottles and put water and a little bit of the paint in each of them. I used dark blue and baby blue mixed in with some dish soap to thicken it.

So I'm really happy with the way that the piece turned out. So I was really happy to paint something that just represented what I'm going through right now. Which is, “I cannot wrap my brain around anything. I've got so much going on.” And I wanted it to represent that as an open mind that is not closed. That's what I'm hoping that it'll really put that message across.

Thank y'all so much for reading this. You can find all of my pieces on Facebook. You can also check out my website.

See y’all next time.

Whoops, you shouldn’t be seeing this. Go to the proper link here.
